How does lip filler work?
Lip filler adds volume to flat or thin lips to balance your facial proportions. During your lip filler consultation at Twin Falls Dermatology & Aesthetics, LLC Laurel takes the time to listen to your thoughts and goals for your treatment. She can then recommend the appropriate filler for you.
Twin Falls Dermatology & Aesthetics, LLC offers lip filler using two high-end brands: Juvéderm® and Restylane®. Both of these fillers contain hyaluronic acid, a natural hydrating gel-like substance that lubricates your joints and eyes. Hyaluronic acid gradually dissolves on its own in around nine months.
What are the results of lip filler?
Laurel strives for natural and subtle lip filler results. You won’t feel like your reflection is unfamiliar or that your results look fake or plastic. During your initial consultation, you can talk about your specific lip filler goals. You might have a specific vision for your results because of the natural shape of your lips or their proportions. You can use lip filler to make your lips:
Plumper
More evenly sized
More symmetrical
Less wrinkled
To be a good candidate for lip filler, you should have realistic expectations, a positive outlook, and good mental and physical health.
What should I expect while getting lip filler?
Knowing what to expect from a lip filler injection appointment can ease your nerves if you’ve never had lip filler before.
She advises patients to stop blood thinning medications such as Ibuprofen, acetaminophen or aspirin approximately a week prior to injection day. You may take Arnica prior to injection day to decrease bleeding and bruising.
During your visit to Twin Falls Dermatology & Aesthetics, LLC Laurel applies topical anesthesia to your lips. Once the product takes effect, your lips are numb and prepared for the injections. The treatment can take up to 30 minutes. If you prefer a dental block, you may request it.
Laurel maps out where to place the injections before starting them. Using a syringe and a very fine needle, she carefully injects the product into the targeted area. You shouldn’t feel much pain because of the anesthesia, but you might feel a pinch and get tears in your eyes.
To minimize swelling, bruising, and discomfort, Laurel may apply ice or a cold pack to your lips intermittently throughout the procedure. She also massages your lips to help the product settle. She provides you with detailed instructions for aftercare so you can minimize side effects at home and helps you book a follow-up visit.
What to do prior to lip filler injections
1) Stop pain relievers such as Ibuprofen, Tylenol or Aspirin if you are able to, 4-5 days prior to injections. This will minimize bruising.
2) If you are prone to cold sores, please let Laurel know ahead of time, and take an antiviral medication before injections.
3) If you have an active cold sore or other skin infection, the filler will be postponed until the skin is healed.
4) Lip filler is approved for ages 21 and over. If you are younger than 21, and also looking for a full/plump type of lip filler, I would recommend a consultation with one of the local Med Spas.
